The illegal dumping of trash along County roads range from soda cans and coffee cups to old refrigerators and construction debris. All this trash must be collected and disposed of in order to maintain a healthy and clean environment.
Want to help keep the environment in your community clean and neat? The Nampa Highway District No. 1 Adopt a Road can be your ticket to participation in a cleaner, neater community, either where you live or where you work. You will gain a sense of achievement and a sense of pride in your community by volunteering to aid in its upkeep.
What Is The Adopt-A-Road Program?

The Adopt-A-Road Program is a grass roots collaboration between Nampa Highway District No. 1 and civic or business organizations to help keep County roadways clean and free of trash. Your group selects an appropriate road for its geographic location and signs an agreement with Nampa Highway District No. 1 to formalize the "adoption."
Adopt-a-Road Guidelines
1. Only roadways deemed safe for litter pickup and approved by Nampa Highway District No. 1 are adoptable. Roadways should be at least 20 feet wide and must have shoulders on both sides.
2. Roadways are adopted for a minimum of two years.
3. Group leaders must attend a safety training session .
4. Each adopting group will coordinate clean-up activities, training, direct all questions and submit all reports to Nampa Highway District No. 1 contact person.
5. All recyclable materials collected by the group may be redeemed and the proceeds may be kept for the group.
6. All clean-up activities must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance with Nampa Highway District No. 1.
7. Group leaders notify their Nampa Highway Dirstrict No. 1 contact person upon completion of each clean-up activity. All trash is placed in bags and sealed. Nampa Highway District No. 1 will pick up all collected trash.
How Do We Start?
To adopt a road, contact Nampa Highway District No. 1 at (208) 467-6576. An information packet will be sent to you outlining the requirements and procedures for officially adopting the County road of your choice.
The road network in Canyon County is maintained by many different government agencies. The State Highway Administration is responsible for State roads. Nampa Highway District No. 1, Canyon County Highway No. 4, Golden Gate Highway No. 3 and Notus Parma Highway No. 2.are responsible for County roads. Individual city or town governments are responsible for most roads and streets with in their respective city limits. A small portion of roadways are private or designated "other public" which requires maintenance by property owners. Please contact us to see what District the road you want to adopt is in.
